Dazhai Rice Terraces

Also known as the Lóngjǐ rice fields, the Dàzhài rice terraces in Lóngshèng county are some of the most stunning in all of China. Before the Cultural Revolution, magazine stories, books and films were distributed across the country praising the villagers of Dazhai. They were showcased as hard workers and good engineers, utilising reservoirs and a kind of aqueduct for irrigation in these sloping hills. For some time the government even organised tours for workers from across the country to be taught and inspired in Dazhai.
